My professional career started quite early, during my first years of university. At the time, Colombia was facing serious economic problems and I needed to work and study at the same time. Looking back, it was the best thing for me as the job I had was at the transport research program at the National University of Colombia.
After four years working on the research program, I wanted to understand more about how the government worked and moved to TransMilenio, the government office in charge of Bogota’s Bus Rapid Transit system. It was a transformational experience in every aspect and gave me a better understanding of institutional and social challenges in our cities.
A few years later, a company started working with us on some interesting projects. This company was Steer! Working with their professional and friendly team prompted me to apply for a job here and it has been a great journey ever since! During my first few years, I worked on many interesting projects, including two large assignments managed by our, then new, office in Mexico and in 2011 I found myself moving with my husband to Mexico City! I will always remember reading the contract on my flight there! I think deep in my heart, I knew Mexico was going to be my home for much longer than we initially anticipated.
My time at Steer has been incredible for many reasons. I have found opportunities in an environment that is aligned to my values, including those of equality and diversity. I have had many great opportunities and I am now leading our Mexico team and our operations in Latin America. I’m really looking forward to the interesting challenges and prospects ahead.
