Steer to support Luton Council with their fifth Local Transport Plan

LTP5 provides an opportunity to rebalance Luton’s transport system to enable more opportunities for active travel, public transport and journey sharing. We look forward to the co-creative nature of this project and developing a clear policy framework and long-term infrastructure plan to support a more connected and sustainable Luton. The policies and interventions will help address broader place-based policy issues such as crime, public health, decarbonisation, climate change and economic development. The LTP is a critical document to reflect the Council’s commitment to meeting the needs of their growing community whilst prioritising sustainability.

Gerard McCleave Corporate Director for Inclusive Economy at Luton Council said, “As the Local Transport Authority, the Council is required to prepare a Local Transport Plan. The plan acts as an infrastructure strategy and policy framework and will have a major part to play in the realisation of Luton’s 2040 vision, by making public transport and active travel the natural choice for local journeys. We look forward to working with Steer to develop the document”.

Steven Bishop, Steer Project Director said: “We’re delighted to be working in partnership with the Council to support their 2040 vision for “a healthy, fair, and sustainable town, where everyone can thrive, and no-one has to live in poverty”. With people and places at heart of this vision-led LTP, ongoing engagement with partners and local communities will ensure that the plan continues to meet the evolving needs of the community.”
