Our role in helping people, places and economies thrive means that we take our social and cultural responsibilities seriously and that they form an important part of our culture and values.
Consultancies often face challenges in offering meaningful work experience, especially given the technical complexity of our work and the shift to more remote setups. Over the past two years, we have developed a comprehensive program aimed at providing students with insights into Steer’s world of work and equipping them with skills for the future.
"Confidence, presentation skills, teamwork, and interview techniques" were highlighted by our recent cohort of work experience students as key gains during their interactive and practical week at Steer. Building on the success of last year's program, this year's initiative was expanded, involving 21 students across four offices. With the involvement of over 35 Steer staff, the students benefited from a diverse program that offered essential transferable skills and industry-specific knowledge to guide their career paths.
Students were provided safe spaces to collaborate, learn, problem-solve, and present. Through group projects, teams applied newly acquired subject knowledge, tackled challenges, and presented their solutions to their peers. In addition to practical experience, students received training in Excel, interview techniques, CV writing, project management, and networking skills—preparing them for careers and skills not typically covered in school curricula.
Some quotes from our students:
