Steer is proud to announce its role as headline sponsor of the 2024 Local Transport Summit. The conference is organised by Landor LINKS, publishers of Local Transport Today (LTT), and is taking place in Bedford on 4-5 December.

In its seventh year of support, Steer continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the agenda, sourcing high-caliber speakers and driving crucial discussions on the future of local transport.

This year’s summit, which is being hosted by England’s Economic Heartland, focuses on critical themes relevant to regional transport planning and policymaking, including:

  • Challenges and opportunities for planning in geographies with smaller towns and cities accompanied by large rural hinterlands
  • The influence of emerging government policies and funding priorities on regional planning
  • Strategies for sustainably connecting housing and development at scale
  • Supporting political decision-makers, particularly those new to their roles, in making informed transport decisions
  • The potential impact of a national Integrated Transport Strategy in facilitating effective regional planning

The Local Transport Summit stands as a key event for policymakers, planners, and transport experts to collaborate, innovate and address the most pressing transport issues facing towns, cities, and rural areas across the UK.

The summit moves location each year and has in the past visited different parts of England, including Oxfordshire, Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire, Hertfordshire and West London.

In keeping with the event's tradition of fostering a relaxed and collaborative environment, the summit will feature an evening networking dinner on the first day, enabling participants to continue the day’s discussions in a more informal setting, inspired by additional speaker addresses. A walking tour of Bedford will further provide a unique opportunity to explore local transport challenges and solutions in situ.

Steer Directors Steven Bishop, Nicola Kane and Simon Statham will chair lively panel discussions and roundtable workshops alongside influential speakers from the Department for Transport, Urban Transport Group, and the wider industry.

Steven Bishop said: “Steer is thrilled to be the headline sponsor of the Local Transport Summit once again. We believe that fostering discussion and sharing best practices are essential to developing sustainable and connected transport solutions, particularly in a fast-moving political environment bringing about significant change and opportunity for those working in transport.”

Peter Stonham, Chairman of Landor LINKS, said: “The Local Transport Summit is a highlight of the transport policy and planning calendar. Each year, we tackle the most pressing challenges, and we greatly value Steer’s ongoing support in shaping the agenda and driving important discussions.”
