Steer brings ninth annual Local Transport Summit to the East Midlands

Steer is proud to sponsor the 2025 Local Transport Summit in Derby, driving vital discussions on devolution and future transport.

Steer is proud to once again serve as headline sponsor for this year’s Local Transport Summit (LTS)

At a time when the UK Government is promising a ‘devolution revolution’, there is no better place to host the LTS than Derby, home of one of the newest combined authorities in the country, the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA).

As the region charts a course for growth and plans a new mass transit system linking its two major cities, Derby and Nottingham, LTS will once again bring together local officials and key industry players to discuss the future of transport and planning.

The event, to be held on 18-19 November and organised by Landor LINKS (publisher of Local Transport Today), will be hosted by EMCCA and co-supported by the Department for Transport and the Urban Transport Group.

What to expect at the Local Transport Summit in Derby

Through its Devolution White Paper, the Labour Government has set out its vision for “a decade of national renewal” in England, creating a new generation of Strategic Authorities with broad powers to deliver better public services, revitalise the public realm, and foster prosperity. Undoubtedly, this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for the local transport sector and the transport planning profession.

Yet the next decade will bring challenges as well as opportunities. The Local Transport Summit offers a unique space for the profession to step back, honestly assess these challenges, and explore how best to equip the new generation of local leaders to succeed.

In keeping with the event’s tradition, delegates will enjoy an evening networking dinner on the first day, alongside after-dinner speakers, and take part in a local study tour to see transport challenges and solutions in context.

We promise lively discussion, deep insights and a chance to take stock of our industry’s role in the East Midlands and the country as a whole. We will work together to address the need to balance economic growth with health, decarbonisation and social inclusion in the devolution era.

Steer’s role in the Summit

Steer continues to shape the LTS agenda and lead vital discussions on the future of local transport across the UK.

Steer UK Regional Directors Simon Statham (Midlands), Nicola Kane (North), and Steven Bishop (South) will chair discussions and workshops alongside senior figures from the Department for Transport, the Urban Transport Group, local authorities, and the wider industry.

Simon Statham said: “In a year when devolution is reshaping the transport landscape, the Local Transport Summit offers a critical platform for open, constructive discussion. We’re delighted to continue our headline sponsorship and to work with industry leaders to help shape transport solutions that are sustainable, inclusive, and resilient.

“This year’s Summit in Derby will shine a spotlight on how local leaders are preparing to deliver in the new devolved era – and the lessons all regions can take away.”
