Steer worked in partnership with San Diego MTS and our subcontractors Gaslamp Media to deliver a brand new, mobile responsive website for the transit agency. Using cutting edge design, we created a user-experience that was truly ‘mobile first’ and leveraged real time and schedule data produced by MTS via their new One Bus Away API.
The website design and sitemap was based on user research carried out by MTS and analyzed by Steer.
How we helped
The site concentrates on the ‘here and now’, providing users with information that allows them to make informed decisions, including real time departures for bus and trolley – a first for San Diego MTS. Furthermore, the user can view all this information via the web with no need to download an app. The website has over 12,000 daily user sessions and over 11,000 visitors with 65% accessing it via mobile or tablet.
The website makes the best use of Google Maps APIs, including interactive mapping tiles and transit trip planning data. Steer handled all the integration work on behalf of San Diego MTS.
A Drupal CMS back-end allows the MTS team to update the site on a work PC or tablet on the go with new content, transit alerts and events. The site is securely hosted in MTS infrastructure and data transfer is protected by an SSL certificate.
Successes and outcomes
Based on our performance of the website redesign we were awarded and completed a full redesign of San Diego MTS’ intranet, where we implemented next generation communications and database tools for staff members.
